AND I DARKEN BY KIERSTEN WHITE
"SOULS AND THRONES ARE IRRECONCILABLE"- AND I DARKEN
No one expects a princess to be brutal. And Lada Dragwlya likes it that way. Ever since she and her gentle younger brother, Radu, were wrenched from their homeland of Wallachia and abandoned by their father to be raised in the Ottoman courts, Lada has known that being ruthless is the key to survival. She and Radu are doomed to act as pawns in a vicious game, an unseen sword hovering over their every move. For the lineage that makes them special also makes them targets.
Lada despises the Ottomans and bides her time, planning her vengeance for the day when she can return to Wallachia and claim her birthright. Radu longs only for a place where he feels safe. And when they meet Mehmed, the defiant and lonely son of the sultan, Radu feels that he’s made a true friend—and Lada wonders if she’s finally found someone worthy of her passion.
But Mehmed is heir to the very empire that Lada has sworn to fight against—and that Radu now considers home. Together, Lada, Radu, and Mehmed form a toxic triangle that strains the bonds of love and loyalty to the breaking point.

Princess do not always need a Prince to be saved. The character of Lada is admirable. She teaches us women need not always be fragile and helpless, The fierce character of her is what makes the book stand out among other books. The story has very good impact on me infact i never wanted this story to end. I thought the climax of the book will leave us on the edge so that we can eagerly wait or the next part but the story ended like a normal book. I wasn't sure if i should be happy or sad. I hated the idea of Mehmed having concubines but still i love the passion between him and Lada.I had some ideas of how it should have ended but some how i was happy with the book and i was sad for Radu through out the story. I am anticipating for next part. The writing was good enough to go with the flow and my favorite character is Lada for her outstanding personality.
SOME OF MY FAVORITE PHRASES:
“So the question becomes, Daughter of the Dragon, what will you sacrifice? What will you let be taken away so that you, too, can have power?” - Huma to Lada
“And so she cut out her heart and offered it as a sacrifice. She would pay whatever price her mother Wallachia demanded.
“Make me prince,” she said without feeling.” - Lada to Mehmed
“Make me prince,” she said without feeling.” - Lada to Mehmed
“Well, are you ready, Lada Dragwlya, daughter of the dragon?" Fire burned in her heart, and her wounded soul spread out, casting a shadow like wings across her country. This was hers. Not because of her father. Not because of Mehmed. Because the land itself had claimed her as its own. "Not Dragwlya," she said. "Lada Dracul. I am no longer the daughter of the dragon." She lifted her chin, sights set on the horizon. "I am the dragon.” - Lada
She turned away " I was going to leave"
He pulled her close, burying his face in her hair" I forbid it"
